Top 5 2023 Albums for Atlanta Half Way Through
5.Lil Yachty-Let’s Start Here.
Reminiscent of the Chill wave of Toro y Moi and psychedelic rock of Tame Impala, both artists and styles have a cult following in Atlanta, Let’s Start Here brought a very unexpected style from Lil Yachty that would have the average listener question if this project was trolling. But, for those who follow and listen to the previously stated artist and genres there weren’t any complaints with the album, not even the throat chopping singing introduced by Lil Yachty on Poland commonly used throughout the album. The album is very immersive sonically, very polished with its production, and really fun to sing along to. Let’s Start Here peaked at #9 on the Billboard Top 200. Highlight tracks for me were sAy sOMETHINg and The Alchemist.
4.Young Thug-Business is Business
A highly anticipated album considering the circumstances and the two year wait since the release of Punk, Young Thug’s Business is Business relieves fan yearn for his music. The album can be correlated to a scrapbook of past Young Thug albums stylistically, where each song takes you back to a past album just based off of his rap style or his choice of beat. That’s not a knock to the album with the uncertainty of music frequency coming from Young Thug’s situation and the lay off between albums it’s refreshing to get unheard archival songs with little experimentation while being away for the past year. Business is Business peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top 200. My highlight track is Abracadabra, my current #1 song this
2.Young Nudy-Gumbo
Mr. Consistency strikes again. Year in and year out Young Nudy gives fans a five star quality album and “Gumbo” is no different. No experimentation, no fillers, just Nudy music on Nudy type beats doing what Nudy do. How can you top that? We just wait for him to drop annually to slot his album into the top 5 for the year. With “Gumbo” Young Nudy now has his highest charting single in his career in “Peaches and Eggplants” putting more eyes on him and with his consistency everyone will soon know The Slimeball, The Dr. Ev4L, The Rich Shooter, The EA Monster, Young Nudy. Gumbo peaked at #83 on the Billboard 200. My highlight tracks are Okra and Peaches and Eggplants the best back to back on an album this year.
1.Gunna-a Gift & a Curse
7 months. Gunna was home for 7 months prior to the release of his “a Gift & a Curse” album and was able to address controversies and give insight in his point of view on those controversies in 15 wonderfully produced and performed pieces of music. Unmatched this year by any artist so far this year “a Gift & a Curse” just didn’t have a song that could be skipped over. With circumstances to draw attention and phenomenal music to hook you in everything went in favor of this album to be take my top spot so far for the year in all genres. “a Gift & a Curse” peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. My highlight tracks are Alright and Go Crazy.
